I suspect one of my friends drinks excessively. What are the warning signs for alcoholism? 

There is no single warning sign for alcohol abuse.  Some signs of a possible problem include, if your friend:

-Gets drunk on a regular basis
-Drinks when alone
-Shows up at school drunk or skips class to drink
-Needs alcohol to have a good time or deal with everyday life
-Plans ahead to drink alcohol
-Lies about drinking
-Pressures your or others to drink
-Borrows or steals money to buy alcohol

Kids in our state are trying alcohol for the first time, and drinking on a regular basis, before the age of 13 (according to the 2006 Arizona Youth Survey).
